As the agricultural sector and cattle feed industry decline, Rodenburg begins exploring alternative uses for side-stream products. The development of a patented bioplastic starts.

Construction commences of a pilot plant for the development and production of bioplastic compounds, utilising side-streams from the agro-food industry. Simultaneously, spurred by public and private interest in bioplastics, engineering work is begun for a large-scale production line.

A large-scale, versatile extrusion plant opens, with an initial starch extrusion line capable of producing up to 20,000 metric tonnes per year.

Due to the slow growth of the bioplastics industry, Rodenburg leverages its expertise in starch and extrusion to start developing alternative products. It initiates market development for extruded products and achieves its first sales in technical starches, such as drilling starch.

In a partnership with a listed multinational coorperation, Rodenburg facilitates the scale-up of biolatex from experimental to large-scale commercial production.

A project to use side-stream potato products in pet food ingredients is initiated. Sales and production begin that same year.

In collaboration with Mars Inc., Taghleef and Mondi, Rodenburg completes an award-winning project. Our company develops a patented technology to create compounds that are suitable for the production of voided bi-axially stretched films.

The Tony Starch project is started, adding Green Chemistry to the Rodenburg portfolio. The molecules discovered in this project show the potential to replace fossil-based chemistry in over 400 applications.

In partnership with a listed multinational coorperation a formaldehyde replacement for the wood-composites production line is scaled up for large-scale market introduction .
